CJ ENM’s <Crash Landing on You> and <You Quiz on the Block> Won Grand Prize and Excellence Award, respectively, for their Content Creativity and Influence at 2021 KCC Broadcasting Awards

CJ ENM's <Crash Landing on You> and <You Quiz on the Block> were honored with the Grand Prize and Excellence Award, respectively, at the 2021 Korea Communications Commission (KCC) Broadcasting Awards. 

Launched by the KCC in 2009, the Korea Communications Commission Broadcasting Awards is the country’s only broadcasting sector government awards event that recognizes excellent programs broadcast through all broadcasting media such as terrestrial, cable, IPTV, and satellite throughout the year. By selecting and recognizing creative and excellent broadcasting programs, the event intends to boost the morale and the creative will of broadcasters and contribute to the development of broadcasting culture.

The 2021 KCC Broadcasting Awards ceremony was held online on September 13th. tvN’s drama series <Crash Landing on You> won the grand prize while its entertainment program <You Quiz on the Block> was honored with an Excellence Award in the category of Society and Culture Development. CJ ENM won the Grand Prize in 2016 for <Reply (Answer me) 1988>, followed by the Excellence Award for <Guardian: The Lonely and Great God> and <The Signal> in 2017. In 2018, it won the Excellence Award in the category of Society and Culture Development for <Stranger (Secret Forest)> and another Excellence Award in the category of Hallyu Expansion for <I Can See Your Voice>. In 2019, the Excellence Award in the category of Society and Culture Development (TV) went to <Mr. Sunshine>, with tvN given an Excellence Award in the category of Production Capability. In 2020, CJ ENM received an Excellence Award in the category of Hallyu Expansion for <Hotel Del Luna>. 2021 marked the sixth consecutive year that the company has won KCC awards 

<Crash Landing on You>, for which tvN was the first to receive the grand prize among program providing business operator (PPs), was aired from December 2019 to February 2020, with the final episode recording the highest viewership ratings for tvN, recording a household average of 21.7% and a maximum of 24.1% (based on Nielsen Korea’s nationwide surveys of paid platform subscribers). The drama series has created a syndrome-like craze not only in Korea but also around the world. It was featured along with the world-famous drama series in the US weekly 'The Observer' and ranked sixth on Netflix TV shows. It was selected 'a must-see international series' by the Washington Post and was named one of 'Best Korean Drama of 2019' by 'Forbes,' attesting to its global popularity. In 2020, it won the Cable TV Broadcasting Awards (PP Film Award) in the VOD category, followed by an award in the Best Drama Series category at the AACA, the largest content awards ceremony in Asia that reviews and awards the Asian content market, establishing itself as a representative K-content.

<You Quiz on the Block>, which received an Excellence Award in the category of Society and Culture Development, started broadcasting in 2018 and has emerged as an iconic entertainment program of tvN. Having recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary, the program boasts consistently high viewership and buzz as it has been widely loved for its unique quality. The program saw an 300% increase in viewership and an 800% spike in sales since it first aired.
